We worked with Devon County Council, Shillingford Organics, Exeter Food Action and Libraries Unlimited to offer Healthy Start fruit and veg boxes to Exeter residents who were recipients of the government’s Healthy Start scheme. Recipients were eligible for three free veg boxes which could be collected from St Thomas Library.
This scheme has now come to an end but if you are eligible for Healthy Start you can still use your card to purchase fruit and veg from Shillingford Organic’s stall at the farmers’ market, as well as other local outlets.
Are you eligible for Healthy Start? If you’re more than 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under 4, and are on a low income or are under 18, you may be entitled to financial support to put towards the cost of fruit and veg and pulses. You can find out if you are eligible and apply online for the scheme on the Healthy Start website. If you are still receiving Healthy Start paper vouchers and not yet signed up to the card, apply now to make sure you don’t miss out! Everyone must re-apply for the scheme, even if you are already receiving Healthy Start.
