We are working with Devon County Council, Shillingford Organics, Exeter Food Action and Libraries Unlimited to offer Healthy Start fruit and veg boxes to Exeter residents who are recipients of the government’s Healthy Start scheme.
The free box trial has now come to an end but you can still order a Healthy Start box for £8.50, fortnightly, weekly, or as often as suits you. You will need to place your order for the following week when you collect your box and use your new Healthy Start card to pay in advance. Boxes can be collected from St Thomas Library on Tuesday afternoons between 12pm and 5pm.
NB you can order the boxes and pick up from the library, even if you don’t have a Healthy Start card, but just want to buy a small organic veg box. The boxes usually have potatoes, carrots, onions and three other items, including greens, root vegetables, or whatever is in season. We also usually have extra free fruit (non-organic) from Exeter Food Action.
If you are interested in ordering you can fill in the form below for more information about the scheme, or just go in to St Thomas library to order your box.
Are you eligible for Healthy Start? If you’re more than 10 weeks pregnant or have a child under 4, and are on a low income or are under 18, you may be entitled to financial support to put towards the cost of fruit and veg and pulses. You can find out if you are eligible and apply online for the scheme on the Healthy Start website. If you are still receiving Healthy Start paper vouchers and not yet signed up to the card, apply now to make sure you don’t miss out! Everyone must re-apply for the scheme, even if you are already receiving Healthy Start.
